Prevention
There is no exact way to prevent bipolar disorder, but it is advisable to follow a series of measures such as being alert to the signs and treating the symptoms once they appear to prevent them from worsening, suspending the consumption of alcoholic substances or drugs, following medical indications and not interrupting the treatment plan.
Treatment
Treatment is indicated to control symptoms because bipolar disorder cannot be cured, it is a lifelong illness. Generally, treatment consists of medication, psychotherapy, support groups and psychological education to learn about the symptoms. Commonly prescribed medications include:
Valproic acid - Divalproate sodium - Carbamazepine - Lamotrigine (Mood stabilizers).
Olanzapine - Risperidone - Quetiapine - Aripriprazole (Antipsychotics)
Symbyax (Antidepressant and antipsychotic)
Benzodiazepines (Anxiolytics)
Each treatment is prescribed depending on the severity and is aimed at controlling symptoms.
